In 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declared the ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda. It seeks to get the country to depend more on its abilities and resources than to foreign donors. The vision, among others, included a plan to industrialise the country, hinged on a campaign promise of creating a factory in every district; One District, One Factory (1D1F).
The government’s flagship programme is geared towards creating jobs to alleviate poverty and create wealth for all.
Low and behold, in August 2017, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo cuts the sod for the construction of the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Factory under the 1D1F industrialization drive at Ekumfi in the Central Region.
Markus Duffner, head of Locarno Pro
The Locarno Film Festival’s Locarno Pro industry programme will likely unfold as a hybrid event next year, but with its virtual component taking place after its scheduled physical dates of August 4-14, says newly-appointed head of industry Markus Duffner.
Long-time Locarno Pro collaborator Duffner was announced on Monday (Dec 21) as the new head of the industry programme and is already mulling plans for the 2021 edition ahead of his official start date on January 1. The 2020 edition of Locarno Pro took place online due to the Covid pandemic.
“It’s difficult to predict the sanitary measures we’ll have to follow so it’s too early to give details of the final format but both the festival and Locarno Pro are working in an optimistic way to create a physical event, bringing back all the initiatives we put on hold last year,” he told

Uganda’s multi-million dollar Tilenga Oil Project which is being implemented in Buliisa and Nwoya districts faces numerous hurdles ranging from legal suits, contestation from locals to environmental concerns.
Under the project, government plans to build a central processing facility (CPF) with capacity to process 190,000 barrels of oil and 700,000 barrels of total liquid per day.
The project entails drilling 200 water injector wells, 196 oil producer wells, two polymer pilot wells and 28 reference wells which will be drilled on 31 well-pads.
