New judicial guidelines on personal injury awards, recently approved by the Judicial Council, take effect from tomorrow

Insurance reform campaigners have said they expect the cost of motor and liability insurance renewals to drop significantly from Monday.
Tomorrow will see the new judicial guidelines on personal injury awards, recently approved by the Judicial Council, take effect.
The Personal Injuries Assessment Board, which assesses all unsettled claims, will also be adopting them. Monday next, 26th April, the first working day following the implementation of these new guidelines, is D-Day, said Peter Boland, Director of the Alliance for Insurance Reform.
However, the insurance industry will come up with a reason not to pass the resultant savings on to the consumer.
âTheyâll probably throw a few crumbs from the table, Iâd say. A little bit like last year, when they gave us all â¬30 back on our premiums when there were no accidents at all.â
The Government was mistaken when it accepted the insurance industryâs argument that cutting award levels would lead to lower premiums, he said.
However, the director of the Alliance for Insurance Reform, Peter Boland, said it expected that insurance premium charges should be âsignificantly reducedâ from Monday.
