Thomas Nides, Morgan Stanley executive, reportedly to become US envoy to Israel

The report also named other likely picks as top diplomats by US President Joe Biden’s administration. Born in 1961 to a Jewish family in Duluth, Minnesota, Nides is a banking executive and if indeed picked, would bring both government and private-sector experience to the post.

Thomas Nides Reported to be Nominee for US Envoy to Israel

The Media Line Staff 04/28/2021 A former US deputy secretary of state, Thomas R. Nides, is the likely nominee to be the next US ambassador to Israel, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday. The report, which cites several people familiar with White House plans, also names other likely Biden diplomatic picks. Nides is the managing director and vice chairman of Morgan Stanley. He has previously worked in several financial institutions including Credit Suisse and Burson-Marsteller. He served as deputy secretary of state for management and resources in the Obama administration from 2011 to 2013. In that position he oversaw the recommendation to Congress to approve a three-year extension of loan guarantees to Israel worth $3.8 billion. He also worked to thwart Congressional efforts to cut US support for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNWRA, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO.

Madison Lyric Stage Returns With All-Outdoor 2021 Season

Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company serving the Connecticut shoreline, announced that its 2021 mainstage season will be presented entirely outdoors and will include: The Sun Sits Low: An Evening of Stephen Sondheim in June; the landmark Mart Crowley play The Boys in the Band in July; and a double bill of Puccini s Suor Angelica and Schoenberg s Erwartung in September. All three productions will be directed by Marc Deaton, and will be held under a tent on the grounds of the Deacon John Grave House in Madison s historic district.
