Columbia Valley Rockies defenceman Dylan Malarchuk enjoyed showcasing himself to the Powell River Kings and the B.C. Hockey League during its 2020-21 Pod season.
Malarchuk immediately began making adjustments to how he plays his position seeing how the BCHL game is played. Among them was gap control as he quickly learned that opponents will take advantage of space given to them. He also focused on making quicker decisions and moving his feet.
“It’s definitely a lot of adjusting and it’s a faster game,” Malarchuk said prior to the season ending. “A lot more systems and just overall, bigger, better players. Getting used to playing against them it’s different, but also a lot of fun.”

A winning hockey program combined with small classes sizes made Adrian College the right fit for Nelson Leaf Ethan McLaughlin.
McLaughlin did a virtual tour to get a sense of what Adrian College, based in Adrian, Michigan, and their hockey program is about. The Bulldogs won a American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 national championship in 2017-18 and having a winning environment is attractive to the Penticton, B.C. product, who wants to keep his hockey career going.
While playing, McLaughlin will study business management.

For a fifth straight year, the University of Jamestown Jimmies are playing in the American Collegiate Hockey Association national championship tournament.
The Jimmies will be pursuing a Division I men’s championship in Saint Louis, Mo., this month. Ranked 15th among the 20 teams in the tournament, they feature 16 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League graduates.
The reason the Jimmies program recruits heavily from the KIJHL is easy for head coach Dean Stork.
