In a statement, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has expressed New Zealand’s sorrow at the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. “Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen at this profoundly sad time. On behalf of the New Zealand people and the Government, I would like to express my sincere condolences to Her Majesty and to all the Royal Family. “Prince Philip will be fondly remembered for the encouragement he gave to so many young New Zealanders through The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award. In over fifty years of the award in New Zealand, thousands of young people have completed life-changing challenges through the programme”.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford was among the first to publicly acknowledge Philip’s passing, first on social media and later in the form of an official statement.
“I am saddened to hear about the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. On behalf of all Ontarians, we send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and the entire Royal Family,” said Premier Ford.

The sad news broke Friday morning that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at the age of 99.
Prince Philip visited Toronto 20 times starting in the 1950s, according to a statement issued by Mayor John Tory. Prince Philip s connection to Toronto was a deep and heartfelt one, Tory said.
