NSW recorded its third highest COVID-19 case numbers in the current outbreak, with 110 new locally acquired cases and more than a third of them infectious while in the community.
The number of cases in the outbreak has soared past 1500 on the latest figures, with the number of cases under investigation (305) higher than at any other point in the pandemic.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the high case numbers reflected the high level of testing, with a record number of tests performed, but it remained a concern that 43 people were infectious in the community. The effect of the harsher restrictions introduced on Friday would not be known until the weekend or early next week, she said.
