KU Nursing Students Conduct Temperature Checks to Support Pediatric Patients Several Keiser University Daytona Beach campus Nursing Program students recently volunteered to do temperature checks and ticket scanning at the Daytona 500 ‘Speedweek’ events to benefit pediatric patients.   Director of Student Services Lynne Carr and Nursing Instructor Marilene Lacson, the group was thankful for the opportunity to donate their wages to support The Betty Jane France Pediatric Center at Halifax Health which is also  known as ‘Speediatrics.’   Designed with the idea of caring for the whole family, Speediatrics rooms are brightly decorated with a NASCAR racing them, and create a cheerful and reassuring environment for pediatric patients and their family members. Speediatrics cares for more than 2,000 children each year, including those in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Kaipo Lapenia-Lau, 25, of Kahului was arrested Tuesday morning after a police pursuit that ended at a residence off Kahekili Highway in Waihee. Lapenia-Lau appeared by videoconference from the courthouse cellblock for his initial appearance Friday in Wailuku District Court. He is charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault on a law enforcement officer, two counts of first-degree resisting an order to stop a motor vehicle and first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer.
