Retiring from his career as a biology teacher after serving his community of 42 years, Turkey’s Fevzi Uyar has been dedicating his time to animals in need for the past five years. He has cared for many stray dogs—including building over 80 plywood animal shelters to house them during the winter months. To each one, he adds carpets, rugs, and blankets for insulation and comfort.

Annual Foundation Grants Program

The Parksville Qualicum Community Foundation is seeking applications for its Annual Foundation Grants Program to support initiatives designed to improve the quality of life of the residents in its communities. During the COVID-19 health crisis, the Foundation will also consider emergency response projects for Annual Foundation Grants. During this time, the Foundation will especially consider applications with projects that improve the capacity of homelessness service providers. This would include things like: Securing additional accommodation to reduce overcrowding in shelters; Purchasing supplies and materials to reduce the risk of transmission, such as personal protective equipment for staff; Increasing the frequency of cleaning with disinfectants in high traffic areas;
