AS flames of violence and other forms of lives guzzling insecurity flicker in many parts of the country, Nigeria has literally become a killing field.
In the first six weeks of 2021, lives of no fewer than 1, 525 persons have been wasted across the country Vanguard’s investigation, and data obtained from the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Africa programme, have shown.
The Nigeria Security Tracker tracks violence that is both causal and symptomatic of Nigeria’s political instability and citizen alienation. The data are based on weekly surveys of Nigerian and international media.

In the first six weeks of 2021, no fewer than 1, 525 persons have died across the country, Vanguard’s investigation and data obtained from the Nigeria Security Tracker, NST, a project of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Africa programme, have shown.
The 1,525-death figure, which is conservative, covers only reported cases arising from the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, herdsmen crisis, kidnapping, communal and cult clashes, armed robbery, and brutality of security agents among others.

Nigerian military troops have killed an unspecified number of bandits in numerous air raids conducted in Kaduna State communities over the past two days.
The bandits were killed in air missions across Birnin Gwari, Giwa, Igabi and Chikun local government areas of the state, according to security reports by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan.
Three bandits were killed in Maidaro while traveling along a river line on motorcycles before trying to hide from troops, before more were killed in Gwari after they were sighted with herds of cattle.
More bandits with herds of cattle were also killed four kilometres south of Kampanin Doka.
Explosive Substances Seized From Falaknuma,Two Arrested Feb 26, 2021, 16:10 IST
HYDERABAD: The South Zone police on Thursday seized a huge consignment of explosive substances from the Falaknuma area of the old city. In this connection, two persons have been arrested and the investigation is underway. On a tip-off, the police raided an illegal Gun powder manufacturing unit at Fatima Nagar Vattepally under Falaknuma police station limits and seized 10 quintals of an explosive substance.
In a joint operation, south zone police along with Karimnagar Police conducted raids at a coal factory in Fatima Nagar Vattepally and arrested Mohammed Zainulabideen and Hameed Khan for allegedly preparing gunpowder illegally.
