Takaful market projected to grow $44bn by 2024

With growing number of companies entering into Takaful market, this industry is estimated to expand to $44bn in the next three years, said an industry expert while addressing a webinar on Takaful sector.
Experts highlighted the importance of Family Takaful during the first SEIB Takaful webinar hosted by SEIB Insurance and Reinsurance, recently.
Saleh Imam, Takaful Director at SEIB Insurance and Reinsurance, made the introductory remarks during the webinar on ‘Islamic Insurance series of Family Takaful or the Group Life Insurance’.
Mufti Irshad Ahmad Ijaz, member, advisor and Chairman of the Shariah Supervisory Board of several banks, financial institutions said, the word ‘Takaful’ originates from the Arabic word kafala which means to look after each other.

Doctors of the Ondo Government Doctors Forum, have commenced an indefinite strike over half salary payments for November 2020.
“Doctors in Ondo are working under harsh conditions. We cannot work from home. It is unfathomable that we are being paid half salary. We are not insensitive to the hardship this action will bring. It is our hope that the government will get back to us,” Dr. Omolayo Olubosede, spokesperson for the doctors, said.
Dr. Olubosede said the body had written to the state governor to inform him of their difficulties, but had gotten no reply.
The decision to strike was reached after an emergency meeting of the forum, where the doctors established that they cannot survive on part salaries.

Doctors in Ondo State on Tuesday embarked on indefinite strike after rejecting plans by the state government to pay 50 percent salary.
The industrial action was taken after an emergency meeting by the doctors under the auspices of Ondo Government Doctors Forum, OGDF.
According to the doctors, they cannot survive on 50 percent salary.
Spokesman for the OGDF, Dr. Omolayo Olubosede, said they had earlier written to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu about their plight but did not get any response.
While emphasizing that they would only resume after all their demands which include payment of all salary arrears owed them, appointment of more doctors to replace those that left as well as implementation of Group Life Insurance amongst others are met, Olubosede appealed to residents in the state to understand their plight during the period of the strike action.

Doctors in Ondo State have begun an indefinite strike action over payment of 50 percent salary for the month of November 2020 by the government.
Recall that civil servants in the state last week agreed to collect half salary as well as adopt the model in use by Local Government/SUBEB for future salary payment.
Governor Rotimi Akeredolu had informed the labour union leaders in the state that borrowing to augment payment of salary was no longer sustainable in the state.
The state Head of Service, HOS Dare Aragbaiye had last week displayed Federal Allocation receipts for the month of December, 2020 but shared in January 2021 in which the state allocation for the month of December was N2.3bn after deductions of government obligations whereas total gross salary (Net + deductions) payable to all categories of workers summed up to N5.21bn.

Medical Doctors under the Ondo state government, on Tuesday, commenced an indefinite strike to protest against the payment of 50 per cent salary for the month of November 2020 by the state government.
The medical doctors under the aegis of Ondo Government Doctors Forum (OGDF) said they are downing tools indefinitely, complained over the salary slash, saying they were not carried along by organised labour in reaching the agreement with the state government.
The striking doctors who said they were not members of organised labour in the state but professional bodies and should be consulted before the decision was taken.
