Regan Green has vowed to complete his first marathon at this weekend’s New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon even if he has to crawl across the finish line – all in memory of his best friend Matthew Hunt, the Police Officer who was fatally shot undertaking a routine traffic stop in Auckland in June 2020.
After the tragic event, Regan and other best friend Sam Swaffield started ‘Run With Matt’, bringing together anyone impacted by the loss of Matt to support each other while taking on their own challenge. Last year the duo, along with other friends, ran seven half marathons in six months to celebrate their friend.

A major jetboat crash, cancer and cancellations due to
COVID-19 haven’t stopped 39-year-old Hawke’s Bay local
Cameron Burton from lining up at this weekend’s New
Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Hawke’s Bay
Marathon.
After a jetboat crash in 2006, Cameron was
told he would never run again. Despite this life-changing
news, he worked hard on his recovery and later competed in
two Coast to Coasts. Then there was another challenge –
Cameron was diagnosed with Stage 2b Testicular Cancer,
requiring three months of intensive chemotherapy.
Not
one to let obstacles stop him, Cameron continues to focus on

As runners from across New Zealand prepare to take on
this weekend’s New Zealand Sotheby’s International
Realty Hawke’s Bay Marathon, three generations of a local
family will also be doing up their shoes.
69-year-old
Pam Hastings, 44-year-old daughter Rebecca and 14-year-old
granddaughter Lily are taking on the Havana Coffee 10km
event together.
“A few years ago, my daughter
Rebecca took part in the half marathon run – we were very
excited for her as she has worked hard on her health and
this was a biggie for her,” says proud Mum Pam. “It was
such a great day, so we decided that next time we’d do a

out.
More than 8,000 competitors will make their way
to the region for the fifth running of Hawke’s Bay
Marathon on Saturday 15 May, with this year’s event set to
be the biggest in its history.
The event will see
runners test themselves across three distances, the Havana
Coffee 10km, 2degrees Half Marathon and New Zealand
Sotheby’s International Realty Marathon, with all courses
finishing at the iconic Elephant Hill Estate &
