The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, on Tuesday, appeared before the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
This was in response to a petition submitted against him following the circulation of a viral video where Mr Umar was seen assaulting a security guard at Banex Plaza in Abuja.
The Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang, laid the petition before the Senate on April 29.
The Senate then summoned the CCT Chairman to defend himself.
Umar when he appeared before the lawmakers on Tuesday said he was not properly served with the petition and based on the principle of fair hearing, he should be given sufficient time to allow him to study the petition.

The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges is granting the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal Mr. Danladi Umar, two weeks grace period to reappear before the committee and answer allegations of an assault on a security guard at Banex Plaza in Abuja.
Mr. Umar who is appeared before the committee on Tuesday told lawmakers that he was not properly served with the petition, and based on the principle of fair hearing, he should be given sufficient time to allow him to study the petition.
The Senate committee is consequently giving him two weeks to prepare and face the lawmakers.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has claimed House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy rented a DC room from pollster Frank Luntz, who he previously accused of lobbying for left-wing corporations.
On Monday night, Carlson renewed his attack on Luntz, a long-time Republican Party consultant, calling him effectively a Democrat, in a follow-up to last week s show where he claimed the pollster should no longer have a role with the GOP as his views don t align with its voters.
After questioning why Luntz continued to have influence in the party, the Tucker Carlson Tonight host said his team had received a tipoff that McCarthy had rented a room in Luntz s D.C. apartment.
