Equity Group Foundation launches applications for the 2021 Wings to Fly program Shares Equity Group Foundation (EGF) has launched the application process for the 2021 Wings to Fly scholarship program. The program is in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and the German government through KfW. Additionally, EGF has announced applications for the 2021 Elimu scholarship program. The deadline for the scholarship application is 31st May 2021 on the EGF website and through Equity bank branches or Equity Agents. The 2 programs will offer a total of 10,500 scholarships to academically promising scholars from needy backgrounds who sat and excelled in the 2020 KCPE examinations. After the selection process, the Wings to Fly scholars will form the 12th cohort and join other 17,304 scholars who have benefitted from comprehensive scholarships offered through the program.

Equity Group Foundation and KFS partner to plant 7,000 trees at UoN Campuses Shares Equity Group Foundation (EGF) and Kenya Forest Service (KFS) have joined the University of Nairobi to plant 7,000 trees at various campuses. The tree-planting exercise is in a bid to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. The tree-planting drive coincides with Equity’s ambitious conservation project to plant 35 million trees across the country, and to support the government’s goal of increasing the country’s forest cover to 10% by 2022. The University of Nairobi (UoN), plants trees annually as part of their environmental rehabilitation efforts. The University received 5,000 seedlings from Equity Group Foundation and 2,000 seedlings from the KFS. The 7,000 trees will be distributed across various campuses based on availability of space including 2,000 trees at the Wangari Mathai Institute of Peace and Environmental Studies, 200 trees in the students’ halls of residence and 400 tree

Brad Groves A BUSINESSMAN and football club owner has launched a new charity to tackle socio-economic problems in parts of the region. Great Annual Savings Group boss Brad Groves, also chief executive of Spennymoor Town FC, will spearhead The GF (Groves Family) Community Foundation. The charity has been created to revive communities in four areas of County Durham and Sunderland – East Durham, Seaham, Spennymoor and Hetton and Easington Lane – which face similar challenges such as high unemployment and lower levels of opportunities. The charity has said it will support children and young people, the elderly and vulnerable and families by improving access to sport, health and wellbeing programmes, investing in community events, supporting education and employment opportunity, supporting not-for-profit organisations and with grants and awards.
