Chao Phraya Express Boat has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) to run a pilot project of electric boats for commuters on the Chao Phraya River.
The two yellow boats were developed by Kasetsart University (Sriracha Campus). Each boat can accommodate up to 80 passengers and is powered by 214kWh lithium-ion batteries, which can cover a distance of 60km on a single charge. The boats top speed is about 10 knots or 18.5kph and they are equipped with an air-conditioning system powered by rooftop solar cells.
BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): Chao Phraya Express Boat signed a memorandum of understanding with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) on Tuesday (Feb 23) to test run passenger electric boats on the Chao Phraya River from Pakkred pier to Sathorn pier.
“This year marks the company’s 50th anniversary of providing boat services on the Chao Phraya River, ” said Chao Phraya Express Boat president Suphaphan Phichaironnarongsongkhram.
“We have been working with Egat in developing electric boats that are energy efficient and will help reduce air and noise pollution along the river, effectively tackling the PM2.5 problem that has been threatening the livelihoods of people in metropolitan areas, ” she said.

As a result of 2020 being hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has seemed to come to a halt.
However, this was not the case when it came to developments in Bangkok. This year probably the worst year for many was surprisingly a time when progress concerning mobility in Bangkok continued at a considerable pace, leading to positive changes in the quality of urban life.
