He said now that schools have reopened they are seeing the total number of reports increase, but they are still down about 9% when compared to 2019.
“What did we find during the pandemic and what are we still finding now? Families are incredibly resilient. Communities are the best form of support for families,” Mysogland said.
Many of these families need housing, food or broadband internet service.
“What children and families need are those concrete and tangible supports.Verses surveillance by a government agency,” Mysogland said.
State Child Advocate Sarah Eagan said chronic absenteeism from, school whether it’s in-person or remote, doesn’t mean all these children are being neglected.

Sharen Ford, director of foster care and adoption for Focus on the Family, emphasized the importance of reporting any sign of suspected abuse and neglect, especially as some children are returning to school for the first time since the pandemic lockdowns began.
“Our Prevention with Purpose campaign is about helping everyone to know that their eyes and ears matter in the life of a child,” Ford told CP in an interview Wednesday. “If you see something that is suspicious, please call and report it. If you hear something that concerns you, a conversation that young children are having or older children and it sounds suspicious, please pick up the phone and report it.

Child neglect allegations were lodged against a Beckwith couple last week, according to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley.
The Fayette County Sheriff s Department was notified by medical professionals of an intake involving a toddler who had received burns to the back, a March 24 FCSD press release noted. An investigation revealed conflicting stories as to what exactly happened to the child regarding the injuries.
The child s mother and her boyfriend, Jenna Wilson and Lawrence Skidmore, of Beckwith, were charged and arrested for the felony offense of child neglect resulting in serious injury. Their bonds were set at $35,000 each by the Fayette County Magistrate Court.
