Ostroskey credited the Student Awareness of Fire Education Program with helping to teach fire safety to children. This milestone speaks to the hard work of firefighter-educators to teach children what to do to save themselves in a fire. This isn t the first time that India has seen such a tragic fire incident at a healthcare institution. According to a study, a total of 33 major hospital fire incidents were reported in India between January 2010 to December 2019.
Access to the Bhandara district hospital was barricaded to keep the media away and restless crowds milled around outside, anxious for any information on the deaths of the 10 infants, aged between one and three months, inside the Special Newborn Care unit.
