Covid persists in just one part of Winchester district

CORONAVIRUS continues to cling on in just one area of Winchester district. Covid-19 has been virtually eliminated across the district with, today, just one area with more than two cases in the seven days to May 12. Across Hampshire the numbers are on the rise, albeit very gently. That is Oliver s Battery and Hursley where there have been five cases in the seven days to May 12, the most recent day for which localised statistics are available. The rate per 100,000 people is ten times the district as a whole. The 13 other areas of the Winchester district have reported fewer than three cases in those seven days and are now marked white on the Government map.

The Winchester areas with the most Covid vaccine coverage

Covid vaccine NEARLY a third of people in Winchester have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal. NHS data shows 31,022 people had received both jabs by May 2 – 30% of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics. Of those to have received both jabs, 26,695 were aged 45 and over – 44% of the age group. It means 4,327 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses. Covid: Winchester district may now be free of virus

WINCHESTER district is potentially Covid-free for the first time in more than six months. The official Government shows the 14 areas of the district with two or fewer new cases in the seven days to April 21, marking them white on the map. Wednesday April 21 is the most recent day for which localised figures are available. The last two area with more than two cases over the weekend had been Whiteley, Knowle and Wickham and Winchester Central and South. It is unclear whether there are no cases in an area or just one or two. All 14 areas of the Winchester district are now marked white on the Government map

NO Covid deaths in Winchester district for 50th day

FOR the 50th day, no Covid-related deaths have been reported in the Winchester district. Since the start if the first lockdown last spring 183 people have died within 28 days of a positive test. There have been no new ones since March 3.
