A study from the University of Manitoba is hoping to give 800 families activity kits as part of a study. Wellness activities are also included for both caregivers and their families, as we want to ensure families take care of themselves during these difficult times, founding member and project director of the ToyBox project Sheri-Lynn Skwarchuk says. Skwarchuk is a professor and development studies director at the University of Winnipeg.
The ToyBox project is being created with the University of Winnipeg and the help of parents, educators, and university and high school students to improve children s numeracy, literacy, and wellness. The Toybox testers will be given three activities a week, focussing on literacy on Mondays, wellness on Wednesdays, and numeracy on Fridays. The six-week study ends in March.

Like most businesses across northern Michigan, Norte has had to pivot and change gears when it comes to in-person events.
That includes their annual Stella for Spokes dinner that supports the organization with a partnership with Trattoria Stella and Chef Myles Anton in Traverse City. For more details on the changes with this year’s dinner set January 31st, and to sign up click here.
Norte has also changed their annual advocacy academy to virtual online sessions. The program enables people to have a voice when it comes to safety in their community whether that be enhancing crosswalks or widening bike lanes.

A County Derry husband and wife have died with Covid-19 within hours of each other at Altnagelvin hospital.
The funerals will take place tomorrow of Barney and Sarah (Blossom) McGlinchey who passed away on Wednesday.
Mr and Mrs McGlinchey, who were in their early 80s and late 70s and from Greysteel, had five children and seven grandchildren.
A spokesman for the local St Mary’s Faughanvale GAA club said Mr and Mrs McGlinchey were well known in the area.
The spokesman said: “The couple were highly regarded in our community. Barney was a loyal supporter of not only our teams but also our club initiatives, including the Winter Walks at John McLaughlin Park.”
