The local United Way Coldest Night of the Year walk has raised over $39 thousand and has smashed the $30 thousand dollar mark but funds are still rolling in.
Campaign Co-Chair of United Way Perth-Huron, Martin Ritsma, encourages walkers to conclude their walk in this year’s Coldest Night of the Year event with a selfie outside Exeter Scotiabank, a wonderful sponsor.
He also explains money raised won’t be going far, instead benefiting the community in an effort to end homelessness.

Downtown Napanee was punctuated with blue-and-yellow hats this past Saturday as more than 140 walkers took to the town streets to raise money during the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.
The walkers set out at various locations throughout the day in small teams to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and together raised more than $60,000 for Morningstar Mission, a Napanee-based charitable organization that helps fulfil the basic needs of the most marginalized residents of Lennox and Addington County.
They may have been walking separately, but they were united in purpose.
The coronavirus crimped the execution of this year’s Coldest Night of the Year event, however participants put their best foot forward to raise awareness of homelessness and poverty in the community.
While virtual in nature, Dan Avey, founder of Youth Unlimited in Simcoe, said there was no shortage of enthusiasm.
