A Bathing Ape investment completes
Private equity firm CVC has completed an investment in Japanese streetwear label A Bathing Ape (BAPE), for an undisclosed sum.
BAPE was split off as an independent company from Hong Kong-based investment company IT on 30 April. With the investment, CVC has acquired co-control of BAPE.
BAPE was founded in the fashionable Harajuku district of Tokyo in 1993. Its line-up of labels includes A Bathing Ape, AAPE, Baby Milo, BAPE Black, and Mr Bathing Ape, which are sold in stores across Asia, North America and Europe.
CVC plans to expand the business both online – by enhancing the customer experience and optimising its marketing and sales channels through increased digitalisation – and geographically in markets such as China, the US and Europe.
