Woman dead, son injured after being hit by car in Dhaka s Gulshan

A woman died and her six-year-old son sustained critical injuries as a car hit them while they were crossing the road in Dhaka s Gulshan area early today.
The deceased was identified as Shahinur Akter, 36, mother of two. Her elder son Shanto is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The accident occurred when the woman along with her husband and two sons was crossing the road around 12:30am. Shahinur was holding the hand of Shanto when they were hit by a car. Her husband Abdus Sattar was carrying their three-year-old son Sakib. The father and the three-year-old were unhurt as they were a little ahead, police and family members said.
Culprit in Munia’s death will be brought to justice: Home Minister
If anyone is found involved in college girl Mosarat Jahan Munia’s death, he or she will be brought to justice, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
He made the remarks while responding to queries of reporters at his Dhanmondi residence on Wednesday.
The Home Minister said law would take its own course in Mosarat Jahan Munia’s death. “Steps would be taken after investigating the incident of recovery of the body of college girl from a flat at Gulshan in the capital,” he said.
“Since the case is under investigation, we would be able to tell the details after completion of the investigation in this regard,” he said.

Police have registered an abetting suicide case against Bashundhara Group managing director after recovery of a young woman s body from a Gulshan flat as primarily they think there was instigation behind the suspected suicide.
Sudip Chakrabarty, deputy commissioner (Gulshan division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, made the remark while talking to reporters at his office today. We initially collected evidence [after recovery of the body on April 26] and it appears that there was abetment behind the suicide, he said.

Narcotics case: trial against Papia, husband begins

Trial of the narcotics case filed against expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon began at a Dhaka tribunal today with deposition of the complainant.
Judge Md Amirul Islam of the Special Tribunal-8 of Dhaka recorded the statement of Md Shafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector of Rapid Action Battalion-1.
The judge then set April 12 for cross-examination of the complainant on behalf of the couple.
In his statement, Shafique said that being informed from a reliable source, a team led by him along with a magistrate conducted a drive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and arrested Papia, her husband and their two accomplices at 12:40pm on February 22 last year when they were trying to leave the country.
