Members of the security forces conducting spot checks during a previous operation in St Catherine. Major security operations are now underway in three St Catherine hotspots in an effort to contain crime in the parish. The hierarchy of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is tight-lipped about the operations, however, police sources have told Loop News that blockades are being set up in Portmore, Central Village and Old Harbour - all three communities situated in the St Catherine South Police Division. Members of both the JCF and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are involved in the operations with curfew-type infrastructure being established, according to the sources who say the initiative is a part of the security forces’ anti-gang crackdown.
