A Mount Pleasant man will spend almost 12 years behind bars for dealing drugs.
According to United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum, U.S. District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey Wednesday sentenced 32-year-old Robert Dean Stagers to 140 months in prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. Stagers was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term and to pay $200 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
In March 0f 2018, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Pleasant Police Department, and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement began an investigation after discovering Stagers had become a supplier of methamphetamine in the Southeast Iowa area. Stagers knowingly distributed methamphetamine to his purchasers who then distributed to others. Police say Eric Rhine of North Liberty and Robert Rankins Junior were accused of getting the drug in Chicago and selling it in Johnson County. Rankins was sentenced earlier this month to seven years in prison.
United States District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered Rhine to serve five years of supervised release as well as pay $100 to the Crime Victims’ Fund.
This investigation began in 2018 involving narcotics trafficking between Johnson County and Chicago, Illinois. Rhine admitted the conspiracy was sold more than 1,000 grams of heroin and he was supplying heroin to numerous individuals in the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area.

Burlington woman sentenced for drug trafficking

DAVENPORT A Burlington woman charged with illegal drug distribution in 2019 learned her sentence on Wednesday.
Pamela Sue Hester, 59, of Burlington was ordered to serve 130 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
The investigation began in 2018 when law enforcement learned of Hester being a distributor of methamphetamine in the Burlington area.
In February 2019, Hester was arrested on a warrant and officers located 58 grams of methamphetamine and $764 that was co-mingled with proceeds for drug trafficking in her possession.
A Kalona man has been sentenced in federal court to 25 years in prison for possession of child pornography.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge John A. Jarvey sentenced 22-year-old Jackson Yaro Young Tuesday, and ordered Young to serve 10 years of supervised release after the prison sentence and pay $600 to the Crime Victims’ Fund. The investigation of Young began in March of 2019 when the Washington County Probation Office received information that Young had been interacting with a minor in public. Young was on probation for a sexual abuse conviction from Linn County at the time. Following further investigation, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office seized two phones from Young, which revealed images and videos of child pornography, as well as sexually explicit communication between Young and multiple minors.
