DGCA: Domestic air traffic declines by 44% YoY in December

The number of passengers carried by SpiceJet in December 2020 stood at 9.52 lakh, up by 13.33% from 8.40 lakh in November 2020. It is declined by 55.60% from 21.44 lakh passenger in December 2019. Passenger load factor (PLF) was recorded at 60%-78% during December. While this was an improvement from 58% -77% in November, it was significantly lower than 80%-92% seen in December last year. PLF is used to gauge the capacity utilisation of transport services, including air transport.

SpiceJet carries first consignment of Covid vaccine from Pune to Delhi

SpiceJet on Tuesday carried India s first consignment of Covid vaccine Covidshield consisting of 34 boxes and weighing 1,088 kilograms from Pune to Delhi, said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. The first consignment containing vials of Covishield vaccine were dispatched from the Serum Institute of India here in the early hours of Tuesday, ahead of the January 16 launch of the nationwide vaccination drive. Amid tight security, three trucks carrying the very first consignment of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine left for Pune airport to be flown to 13 locations across the country today. The first flight will leave for Delhi from Pune airport, Sandip Bhosale, SB Logistics, the logistics team which is handling air transport of Covishield vaccine from Pune International Airport told ANI.

IndiGo to resume direct flights on Kolkata-Shillong route from Feb 1

Private carrier IndiGo will resume direct flights between Kolkata and Shillong from February 1 with the Meghalaya government reopening the state for tourists after remaining closed for almost 10 months due to COVID-19, Airports Authority of India (AAI) said on Friday. The northeastern state was connected with Delhi last month by direct flight services of regional airline flybig. After long suspension of their flight due to #COVID19 pandemic, M/s Indigo @IndiGo6E is all set to resume its Kolkata flt (flight) from 1st Feb. Booking is started. This is second major boost to tourism in #Meghalaya after Delhi flt (flight) by @flybigairlines, AAI Shillong Airport authorities said on Twitter.
