The wind and the clouds, with the continuing freezing temperatures at night, are making the emergence of springtime in Western Montana a little tough. However, Bob Danley of the Bitterroot Outdoor Journal has seen more signs that the season is truly upon us.
Birds - Bob has seen some songbirds in the past few days, including Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, American White Pelican (photo below), a Yellow-rumped Warbler and a Long-billed Curlew. So far, 125 bird species have been recorded in Ravalli County.
Butterflies - Bob has been patient as he looks for butterflies. Sunshine has been nice, but the temperatures are not cooperating. Still, he s seen Boisduval s Blue (photo Below), which is small, with an inch-and-a-half wingspan. You can find it near its favorite plant, the Lupine wildflower.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - It’s that time of year again where spring is here and warmer weather allows for planting.
Plants Plus Owner Tiffany Burton in Cape Girardeau said it’s their busiest time between the months of April and May, and see a high volume of people come through.
Possible frost, however, is on the horizon for Wednesday night across the area. For those that have already planted, you may want to think about brining in plants if you feel they might be at risk.

COLORFUL CARLSBAD DAYS: April can be pretty ethereal pretty much everywhere, but Carlsbad has a lovely lock on sights that stun, pretty much. For sure, that has a touch of hyperbole to it, but once you ve stood among millions of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus, those big-headed, super-layered Technicolor bloomers, it is hard to not think of them when you try and rank your favorite springtime spectacles. We are, of course, talking about the famous Flower Fields, one of the Golden State s most-buzzed-about areas for the colorful kapow created by waves of cultivated flowers.

The reasons for this are connected to global warming's impact on pollen, caused by rising temperatures and increasing carbon dioxide levels.
