Student responsible for arson at Viterbo to be expelled

Temple released the following statement Friday:
“The internal arson investigation has concluded and procedural steps are underway to expel the student found to be responsible. This person will not return to Viterbo. The internal investigation into the hateful racist messages has also concluded. The forensic handwriting analysis eliminated several persons of interest and left one remaining person of interest, though a definitive handwriting match could not be established. The remaining person of interest will no longer be part of the Viterbo campus community. A summary of our investigation has been shared with the La Crosse Police Department, and we will explore any new evidence that may emerge. La Crosse police officer injured after a driver ran into his squad vehicle

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) A La Crosse police officer was injured Monday night after another driver struck his squad vehicle, according to the La Crosse Police Department.
“The La Crosse Police Department is grateful the officer’s injuries were only minor and he is recovering. We believe the safety of all community members is a shared responsibility and we remind everyone to drive sober,” said the department in a statement.
Police say Jacob W. Schwalbach, 19, was impaired when he drove into the police officer’s vehicle.
La Crosse man sentenced to prison for dealing meth

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) A La Crosse man was sentenced Thursday in federal court to 12 years in prison for dealing methamphetamine.
Kong Vang, 31, was also sentenced for four years on supervised release by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley. He pled guilty in February to conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The charges stem from an incident in July 2020. Investigators received a complaint that Vang and his girlfriend, Pader Yang, were selling meth out of their La Crosse home. They searched the residence and found four loaded handguns, eight bags of meth and $12,000 in the bedroom shared by Vang and Yang.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – Evidence shows children who end up in juvenile detention are less likely to become productive members of their communities according to children.wi.gov. La Crosse police are trying out a program to help keep children out of the court system. Today, communities exist in a time where people demand change.
“One of the policies we are looking at currently is our youth operations policy,” La Crosse Police Lt. Avrie Schott said.
