The Cross River State Police Command has rescued an 81-year-old Monarch who was whisked away from his house at Ambo by Idang in the Calabar South Local government area late Monday night.
Vanguard learned that the Victim, HH (Muri) Chief Bassey Iyamba was kidnapped at about 9:00 pm Monday night before the swift intervention by the police and the youth of the community which led to rescue at about 4: 00 a.m this morning ( Tuesday).
Speaking with Vanguard, the Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande said the incident has given them a platform to prove that they can react promptly and swiftly too during emergencies.

The Nigerian Army, through the Operation Akpakwu, said it had uncovered an abandoned structure on Parliamentary Road in Calabar municipality serving as a hideout for criminals.
The Commander, 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General M. A. Abdullahi, who was represented by Major S. N. Ikpeme, told journalists at the Brigade Headquarters on Monday that the discovery followed the trail of eight suspects, who had allegedly dispossessed one Mr Akan Udoh of N25,000.
According to him, three of the suspects have been handed over to the police for prosecution, while five are on the run.
He said the fourth suspect handed over to the police, Peter Obri, was arrested with a locally-made pistol at a rubber plantation in Biase, while his accomplice, one Bassey, was on the run.

The Cross River State Police Command have paraded a suspected child trafficking syndicate including an 80 year old woman, gun runners and four others for various crimes in the state .
Vanguard learned that the 80 year old Josephine Arikekparie was part of a-four man syndicate that specialise on buying and selling of babies and she plies her trade between Cross River and Bayelsa states.
Findings showed that they bought a baby from the mother who later changed her mind and refused to hand it over to them before Operative of Anti-Cultism/Kidnapping squad arrested them (suspects) including Josephine at Peace Mass Transit park Etta Agbor .
