NCAA Division III Men s Lacrosse Quarterfinals Recap

Lacrosse is a game of runs, and CNU twice utilized 4-0 spurts to change the momentum. Down 6-2, a four-goal run between the end of the second and start of the third quarter tied the score at 6. Then, after Ryan Kenney scored consecutive goals for Lynchburg, CNU ended the third quarter with three goals and scored the first tally of the fourth, going ahead 10-8. Up 11-9, CNU relinquished the lead. Trammel Robinson scored the equalizer with 1:27 left to play, setting the stage for overtime. Despite the Lynchburg momentum, it was Christopher Newport that earned a semifinal bid. Dylan Rice scored four goals, Brendes scored three and Coby Auslander had two goals and two assists for the Captains. Zac Hanway made 11 saves.

An Air of Confidence Helps Lynchburg Topple No 1 Salisbury

Lynchburg coach Steve Koudelka felt it at practice this week “an air of confidence.” “They were excited for the challenge,” said Koudelka. “Even yesterday as I walked out to practice, there was a confidence. There was an attitude of ‘I can’t believe this is one day away.’ They weren’t intimated. There was an air of confidence all week.” It’s what’s needed to take down No. 1 Salisbury. The No. 10 Hornets beat the Sea Gulls 10-8, to end a six-game losing streak against Salisbury that dates to 2015.  A diverse scoring effort, with Kyle Lewis, Riley Mitchell and Brett Rogers each scoring a pair of goals, plus a standout performance in net and defense, plus closing the gap at the face-off X led to the victory for the Hornets, who move to 3-0.

Salisbury Locked In On A Higher Standard With Sights on Another Championship

The first time defenseman Drew Borkowicz visited Salisbury, he was sold. “I drank the Kool Aid, I fell in love with it the second I stepped into [coach Jim Berkman’s] office. The plaques, the trophies, the pictures. It’s like, ‘Whoa,’” Borkowicz said. Berkman told him right then and there: He expects excellence. He expects you to work harder than you think you can. He expects the best, or you don’t have a place reaping the reward of national titles. “He expects nothing but 100% from you no matter what you do. He holds you to a higher standard than anyone else does,” Borkowicz says.
