Psychotherapist and philosopher Mark Vernon tells the tale of Dante’s journey through hell, purgatory and paradise, with insightful explanations and reflections, accompanied by 100 of the greatest illustrations that the work has inspired, one for each part or ‘canto’. Dante himself recognised the power of images, and the artwork by genius figures such as Gustav Doré, Sandro Botticelli and William Blake is thrilling and helpful.
