AS Bolton has once again become the focus of national attention due to the steep rise in the Indian variant of Covid-19 the town is doing what it does best coming together and beating the problem. Thousands of residents have come forward and got their vaccination in recent weeks as the town’s public health team and NHS set up pop-up testing centres, parked the vaccination bus at Essa Academy, bringing vaccinations into the heart of the worst hit communities, and knocked on hundreds of doors making sure people had the right information and tests they needed. Just over 90 per cent of all Bolton residents over the age of 50 have been given their first dose of a vaccination, according to the CCG. Data from Public Health England also showed that 65.6 per cent off all age groups in Bolton have been vaccinated.
A Bolton MP has extended demands to create a direct train line from Bolton to London as part of changes to the railways in the country. Mark Logan, MP for Bolton North East, has asked for a Bolton-London train line, following the Department for Transport’s announcement of a new public body, the Great British Railways. Plans for the Great British Railways were published this week, setting out reforms aiming to ensure train operators deliver accessible, high-quality, well connected journeys with simpler and clearer prices. Mr Logan directly asked the secretary of state for transport, Grant Shapps, for the line, which has been on the council s agenda for some time.
