Like a lot of people in their early 30s, they didn’t have a large financial cushion. Since the start of the pandemic in March, they have been unable to find work and have been homeless for nearly a year with their dog, Dot. Over the past three months, they have applied for unemployment  they didn’t know they could apply for it previously  without success and have called the Oregon Employment Department thousands of times to try to get the benefits earmarked in federal legislation for people in their situation.
