A few years before she went into politics, Jennifer Carnahan, chairwoman of the Minnesota Republican Party, said she was nearly cast on the long-running TV show Survivor.
She didn t make the final cut, Carnahan said, but the backstabbing dramas of reality TV would have been good practice for the shifting alliances and rivalries of the state GOP she is now fighting to lead for another two years. It seems like the long knives are out, Carnahan said this week as allegations and attacks swirled around her ahead of the party leadership election this Saturday. Facing a challenge from Sen. Mark Koran, R-North Branch, Carnahan in recent days has been embroiled in a public feud with two of the party s other top officials.

ST.PAUL, Minn. – An election will be held Saturday to determine who will be the chairperson of the Minnesota Republican Party. It has been a contentious campaign.
Incumbent Jennifer Carnahan is facing State Senator Mark Koran of North Branch. Carnahan and Koran are actually pretty close together on the issues. Both are strong Trump supporters, neither argues against claims of a rigged election, and both are critical of Democratic Governor Tim Walz’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Koran accused Carnahan of a lack of financial oversight and using party resources to help her win re-election. Carnahan has questioned the challenger’s integrity and argues it’s a conflict for a politician currently in public office to also lead the state party.

Republicans in the Minnesota Senate are hoping to not automatically count votes of people who register on Election Day.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - Minnesota Senate Republicans are advancing legislation to restrict same-day voter registration, sparking a debate over election rules in the state with the country s highest voter turnout.
The Senate State Government committee passed its omnibus bill on a 5-3 party-line vote Wednesday. It would also end the practice that allows registered voters to vouch for an unregistered person at the polling place.
