The 31.8km ‘Habana Loop’ covers a section of the Bruce Highway at North Mackay as well as Mackay-Habana Road, Farleigh-Habana Road, Sugarshed Road and Heaths Road. Habana resident Wendy Lindsay said she got a “fright” after a close call with a cyclist, only stopping her vehicle in the nick of time when she saw the rider’s small single light in the corner of her eye. Habana and District Progress Association president Palmina Rae said while the community knew it could not change the roads being part of the designated training circuit, it wanted them improved for both drivers’ and cyclists’ safety.
