A pair of Atlanta police officers who were filmed tasering two college students during Black Lives Matter protests in the city were reinstated this week.
Spelman College junior
Taniyah Pilgrim and
Messiah Young, a senior at Morehouse College, were tased after police officials pulled them from a car in downtown Atlanta during a May 31 protest. Video footage of the incident quickly went viral at a time when criticism of police treatment of African Americans was heightened in the wake of Minneapolis officers’ May 25 killing of
George Floyd.

Atlanta s Civil Service Board overturned the dismissals of Ivory Streeter and Mark Gardner on Monday
The board said the city didn t follow its own personnel procedures in the firings
Both Streeter and Gardner are still facing charges of aggravated assault for the May 30 altercation
The officers confronted Messiah Young and Taniyah Pilgrim as they were stuck in traffic after a curfew declared by the mayor during George Floyd protests
Police body camera footage showed the officers shouting at the college students, firing tasers at them and dragging them from the car

ATLANTA - The attorney of one of two Atlanta college students pulled from a car in downtown Atlanta during protests over the death of Georgia Floyd says they were stunned and saddened to learn that the termination of two officers involved in the arrests had been reversed.
Ivory Streeter and Mark Gardner were fired the day after they were seen on live television broadcast pulling a Spelman College student and Morehouse College student from a car in downtown Atlanta on May 30. The incident happened during the second night of protests over the death of George Floyd and the first night Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms implemented an executive order calling for a 9 p.m. citywide curfew.
