Three million new cases of scoliosis are diagnosed each year. Many people can function without surgery but for those who need it, fusion surgery can limit mobility in the spine.
Now, thereâs a new surgery thatâs giving hope to children and teens, so theyâre able to keep their mobility and continue living a normal life.
For 14-year-old Ashley Miller, softball is life. Iâm the utility player on the team. So, I play outfield, I mainly play middle infield, but Iâll occasionally play third and first, and then I catch, said Ashley.

The Cannonvale Cannons cleaned up at the Queensland Long Course Championships in Brisbane last week.
Eleven swimmers travelled to Brisbane to compete with seven swimmers qualifying and competing in individual events.
Of these seven, six made it to the finals.
The Cannons also nominated club relay teams and Austin Edwards-Bland, Tiana Bell, Tegan Hanks and Gus Hedges swam on the first day of competition.
Kate McDonald and Mikhaila Flint were members of the NQ relay team and won silver medals in the freestyle and medley relays.
