Sign Up A new statue depicting the terrifying moment a polar bear escaped into Dundee High Street has been unveiled in the city centre. The huge bear, named Bruin, ran through the streets in 1878, throwing the entire city into chaos as residents ran for their lives. And now anyone walking the same cobbled paths will be able to see the dramatic moment for themselves thanks to a brand new bronze sculpture depicting the unbelievable moment.

Pulaski Schools moving forward with supplemental school year

Janie Slaven | CJ After months of meeting with limited attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pulaski County Board of Education returned to their normal seating arrangement allowing for public attendance. The Pulaski County Board of Education is moving ahead with plans to accommodate students seeking a supplemental school year. In their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, school board members approved the requests of 263 students districtwide. Basically the board has to approve or not approve all requests, Pulaski Schools Superintendent Patrick Richardson noted before making his recommendation to approve. It s an all or none situation.

Work to create easier and safer access for pedestrians to one of Dundee’s most historic thoroughfares is set to get under way next week. The pavement on the west side of Hilltown, between Kinghorne Street and Constitution Road, will be temporarily widened and new dropped kerbs added, making it easier to cross. The work is part of the ongoing Scottish Government Spaces For People programme which promotes active travel in towns and cities by creating more space for more people to walk or cycle instead of driving or using public transport.

Sign Up Work to steer the next 30 years of development and investment in Dundee city centre will be discussed next week. Councillors will be asked to back a plan that will support the development of the city centre, engage young people and move forward with a trial to rent empty shops. The plans will be funded by a £210,000 grant from the Scottish Government’s City Centre Recovery Fund. The three areas of focus were chosen after a three-month public consultation between November and January.
