Expert group recommends use of Covid rapid testing

Expert group recommends use of Covid rapid testing Updated / Thursday, 1 Apr 2021 17:12 An expert group report has recommended to the Government the use of rapid testing for Covid-19. The report suggests that tests such as lateral flow antigen tests (LFAT) should compliment existing national polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing programmes. It recommends widespread pilots, or feasibility studies, of rapid tests across various sectors and industries, including business, sports and education. The report calls for immediate focus to be placed on establishing an agile rapid test knowledge group, which would enable information on validated tests and sampling to be widely shared across Government departments, agencies and sectors.

Rapid Covid tests could let people take control of their health, report says

Self-administered Covid-19 antigen testing could allow people to “take control over their own health”, a Government report has found. The long-awaited report into rapid antigen testing has recommended its use on a trial basis in schools, colleges, workplaces and sporting organisations. Launching the report on Thursday, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said he fully supported the introduction of rapid testing as an “additional tool” in the fight against Covid-19. Delighted to be joined by @profmaryhorgan and Professor Mark Ferguson to launch the report on Rapid Antigen Testing.
