Dublin s Q102 By Alison O Reilly
Fly Far Away by Dubliner Annette Joy is now available on spotify.
She wanted to pay tribute to the survivors, especially on mother s day.
Annette told us: I felt as a mother, it was so important to honour these women and my thoughts go to the 9,000 babies who died. The chorus is fly away, fly away from the dark. My thoughts were with the Tuam Babies, and the love they should have been given when they were here . I wanted to speak about it today for Mother s Day. The reaction has been positive, lots of survivors say it is a very healing song.
Dublin s Q102 By Alison O Reilly There was a significant drop in the number of registered births in January this year - despite speculation of a lockdown baby boom.
Just under 4,800 babies were registered in the first month of the year, according to new figures from the General Register Office.
That s down more than a fifth from the almost 6,200 newborns registered in January 2020.
Professor Evelyn Mahon from the school of sociology at Trinity College Dublin says the uncertainty caused by lockdown is just one reason for the fall.
