OTTAWA Ottawa Public Health has announced an end to a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the Ottawa Hospital. The outbreak at the Civic Campus began Feb. 19 and ended April 13. In that time, 28 patients and 20 staff contracted COVID-19 and nine patients died, making it the deadliest COVID-19 outbreak in a hospital setting in Ottawa throughout the pandemic. The Ottawa Hospital told CTV News Ottawa in mid-March that it was managing the outbreak through infection control measures and additional staffing, and said there was no evidence to link the outbreak to any variants of concern. According to OPH, there are five ongoing outbreaks at local hospitals, including three separate outbreaks at St. Vincent Hospital, one at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, and one in the warehouse of the Ottawa Hospital General Campus.

“This is unprecedented in CHEO’s 47-year history and reflects how serious the third wave of the pandemic is,” said Alex Munter, CEO and president of CHEO. “We need to do everything we can to stop the uncontrolled spread that is making so many people ill.”
The move comes as adult hospitals in the city have begun accepting critically ill COVID-19 patients transferred from the GTA where some hospitals have run out of intensive care room.
City parks normally close at 11 p.m.
Watson, in an interview with CBC radio Tuesday morning, said reports of broken beer bottles at Vincent Massey Park after a party on the weekend made his blood boil. Ottawa residents are “really, really angry” at such behaviour, he said in the interview.

For the first time since the pandemic began, Ottawa hospitals are receiving critically ill COVID-19 transfer patients from the hard-hit Greater Toronto Area.
Three Ottawa hospitals have been asked to take five patients from the GTA. Over the weekend, the first of those COVID-19 patients were brought in by air ambulance and admitted to intensive care units at hospitals here, said Dr. Virginia Roth, chief of staff at The Ottawa Hospital.

A surge of COVID-19 patients is putting unprecedented pressure on the Cornwall Community Hospital, forcing it to transfer other patients elsewhere for care, according to its CEO.
During an update to Cornwall city council Thursday evening, Jeanette Despatie said the eastern Ontario hospital is being stretched to the limit, both in terms of capacity and staffing. These are demands we ve quite honestly never seen before, Despatie said.
