Hon. Alban Bagbin to counter the claims made in a similar statement addressed to the Speaker by the Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, MP for Efutu in the Central Region in which he invites the Speaker to make a declaration for the NPP side as Majority. The MP s claims followed a letter by the MP for Fomena to do business with NPP side in Parliament. But Hon. Rockson holds the view that the claims by the Hon. Afenyo Markin cannot be admitted as true under the circumstances.

Haruna Iddrisu, MP, Tamale South The National Democratic Congress Caucus on Thursday insisted that the NPP Group cannot claim a majority in the House despite a letter by Mr Andrew Asiamah Amoako, the Independent MP for Fomena to associate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Group in Parliament. Mr Asiamah Amoako has written to Speaker Alban Bagbin to officially indicate his willingness to associate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Side in the House. “I Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an Independent Member for Fomena Constituency and now the 2nd Deputy Speaker for the same Parliament do hereby declare that I shall for the purposes of transacting business in the house associate with the NPP in the Eighth Parliament.”

Speaker meets leadership of parliament to resolve issues

+ The leadership of Parliament is waiting for an official communication from the Second Deputy Speaker, Mr Andrews Asiamah Amoako, in order to resolve some outstanding issues in the House before Friday. Although the content of the communication is still unknown, the Daily Graphic has gathered that it has to do with which side of the House Mr Amoako, who contested and won the Fomena seat as an independent candidate, wants to align and sit with. With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) having 137 parliamentary seats each, the decision of Mr Asiamah is expected to decide which of the parties will sit on the right side of the Speaker, which is usually reserved for the Majority in Parliament.
