The Benue State government has released 210 cows earlier confiscated by the state livestock guards at Mbala, Makurdi, and Gbajimba in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
The cows were returned to the owners after various fines worth N5million in total, were paid.
The commander of the Benue State Livestock Guards, Linus Zaki, while returning the cattle to the owners, warned them to desist from violating the open grazing prohibition law of 2017 and seek approval for the establishment of ranches.
He warned herdsmen not to flout the state’s anti-open grazing law, saying the state would not take it lightly with lawbreakers.

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State yesterday said he has no apologies for anyone particularly those in positions of authority for speaking the truth to Nigerians.
He reiterated that he would also not be intimidated into submission provided he had the backing of his people and majority of Nigerians.
He pointed out that the acceptance of ranching in the business of animal husbandry by many in the country was a major breakthrough in his agitation to check the crisis and killings in parts of the country.
The Governor spoke in his home town, Tse-Adorogo, Nzorov Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, LGA, of the state during a funeral oration at the burial of his uncle, Mr. Samuel Atule who died recently.

Two communities in two council areas of Benue State; Obagaji and Abinsi in the Agatu and Guma Local Government Areas respectively recorded cholera cases. About 26 people have died and 100 treated.
The state Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Joseph Ngbea, said 14 deaths were recorded in Agatu while 12 died in Guma.
Our correspondent who visited the affected community in the Guma Local Government Area of the state learnt that in Abinsi the disease was caused by the source of water the residents use for domestic purposes.
It was gathered that River Benue is the only water source for the people of Kabawa community at Abinsi.
