Now Kilkenny County Council is turning to musical messages to reward those who do their bit to keep the city clean and tidy as the city prepares to reopen to local and visiting shoppers and tourists.

Fermoy back in top 10 of IBAL Litter League

Fermoy has taken a giant step towards retaking the top spot it achieved in the final IBAL Litter League table for 2018. The disappointment of dropping 12 places on the 2019 league table has been somewhat assuaged this week after it emerged Fermoy has made it back into the top 10 on the final table for 2020. The town finished in sixth place of the 37 towns and cities surveyed and, just as importantly, held onto its coveted Clean To European Norms designation. As can be seen from the attached blue panel (right) the An Taisce judges were for the most part generous in their praise for Fermoy, with more than half of the sites surveyed receiving top marks.

Volunteers and council staff praised as Ennis cleans up in IBAL ranking ENNIS’ success in this year’s Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey, which saw the county capital take third place nationwide, has been attributed to the hard work and dedication of volunteers as well as council staff. Mayor of Ennis, Councillor Paul Murphy, in acknowledging the results of the IBAL survey, said, “I am delighted to see Ennis once again achieve best in class for litter cleanliness, particularly given the increase in the numbers enjoying recreational activities outdoors. This success can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers in community groups, especially Ennis Tidy Towns, as well as Council staff.” Cllr Murphy acknowledged and supported the positive comments regarding the presentation of the sites inspected.
