A suite of additions to the highway already due in mid-2021 includes intersection upgrades, wider roads, and overtaking lanes, but acting mayor Neil Fisher said more could be done for the sake of all towns along the route. Capricorn Highway has to be one of the most strategic, important pieces of road infrastructure anywhere in Queensland, he said, and we know that the economic benefits not only for our part of the region, but also in growing the Galilee Basin, servicing the Bowen Basin, servicing our cattle industry, developing our tourist industry, particularly the drive tourism, but also there we need to actually have that connectivity that s still missing.
South32 is set to walk away from its half-owned Eagle Downs metallurgical coal project in Queensland as the mining major edges further away from the coal business. South32 bought half of the Eagle Downs coking coal project from Brazil s Vale in 2018, paying $US106m ($148m) upfront and agreeing to deferred payments worth another $US27m. At the time South32 chief executive Graham Kerr said the mine - already fully permitted and partially built by its previous owners, but mothballed in 2015 when coal prices fell and a major contractor went bust - was an attractive development option to add to South32 s coking coal operations.

ASX:GAS) is pleased to advise the initial results of the second well in its Phase 2 drilling campaign, Nyanda-8, at its 100%-owned Reid s Dome Gas Project (PL 231) in the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland.
Nyanda-8 is approximately 2.2 km south-west of the successful Nyanda-4 well, and together with Nyanda-7 (approximately 2.6km north of Nyanda-4 - see Figure 1 ), was drilled as a coal seam gas (CSG) well as part of the Company s program to appraise the Nyanda Focus Area1 within PL231 for early development.
Nyanda-8 reached the targeted Total Depth of 1200m on 3 January 2021, following spud on 29 December 2020. Wireline logs indicate the well has intersected 19.7m net coal with open fractures apparent on the image log, exhibiting good potential for CSG production.
