Untangling ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ viewing points
BY BURZIL DUBE
THE 19 viewing points at Victoria Falls, which were briefly highlighted in this column last week caused a stir where yours truly was bombarded with questions over the authenticity of the mentioned figures.
Some regular visitors to this magnificent spectacle were of the opinion that there are less than 10 viewing points while others could not fathom most names associated with the standpoints.
Few others were oblivious of the fact that this Seventh Wonder of the world is shared by both Zimbabwe and Zambia as they say it belonged to the former.
While yours truly is not a fundi or expert in tourism-related aspects, it is, however, a universally acknowledged fact that the mighty Victoria Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the world and draws thousands of visitors.
I knew it was a long shot. I tried to see Yosemite s firefall anyway.

I wasn’t planning this year to see Yosemite’s National Park’s firefall, a natural phenomenon during which the rays of the setting sun illuminate Horsetail Fall in fire-red, orange and golden hues. Reservations would be hard to come by, I knew, and lines would be long, parking lots would be full and crowds of photographers would be annoying (or even deadly).
Oh, and if it got cloudy or the waterfall went dry, there would be nothing to see.

This waterfall looks like it s on fire!
The Horsetail Falls, at Yosemite National Park in America, glows orange as light from the setting sun hits the water at just the right angle.
The waterfall in California, plunges about 1,500 feet (that s higher than the Shard - London s tallest building!), and almost looks as if it could be lava spilling from a volcano.
Thousands of people travel to the national park to catch a glimpse of the phenomenon which lasts for just a few minutes before the sun moves.
It s elitism : Restricted access to Yosemite infuriates gateway business owners sfgate.com - get the latest breaking news, showbiz & celebrity photos, sport news & rumours, viral videos and top stories from sfgate.com Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday newspapers.
