Euthanized Central Park Horse Had Genetic Disorder But Activists Claim Neglect Played a Role

Documents of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene dated March 2019 and October 2019 showed that Aysha was in good health prior to its death. Also included in documents released by the Transport Workers Union are statements from veterinarians Dennis Farrell and Camilo Sierra who respectively examined the horse prior to and following its death. Farrell and Sierra appeared to confirm that laboratory results led them to believe that PSSM was the cause of the horse s uncontrolled movements. We want to share these medical records because the carriage folks have always been transparent and open about our horses’ lives and our work together, Christina Hansen, a spokesperson for the carriage horse drivers, said in a news release.

Trainers and homes sought for Meeker Mustang Makeover

The third annual event that showcases and auctions wild horses is on Aug. 28. Applications to be a trainer for the Meeker Mustang Makeover are open until April 1. Trainers will look after 3-year-old wild horses or yearlings (1-year-old horses) and get them ready for the competition and auction. “It’s not easy,” said Deirdre Macnab, a rancher who is also a spokesperson for the event. “A lot of these horses are untouched by human hands.” Event organizers, all of whom are volunteers, are looking for trainers for 20 wild horses from the region. They will be given 120 days to coach the horses.
