Cyclone Tauktae brought heavy rains that partially damaged eight houses and five sheds in Udupi district on Saturday and one person was electrocuted in Kapu taluk owing to a snapped power cable.
A communique from the Deputy Commissioner here said four families on the seafront were shifted to a relief centre at Uppunda in Byndoor taluk while seven families in Kundapur taluk and one family in Kapu taluk were shifted to relatives’ houses. About 60 residents of Kodi village in Brahmavara taluk were asked to shift to the relief centre, it said. Similar instructions were given to people residing close to the Sea in Kapu taluk.

Slots for vaccinating those in the 18 to 44 age group at the Government Wenlock and four taluk hospitals in Dakshina Kannada district filled up fast with 250 slots at the Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru being exhausted in 10 minutes on Monday. Vaccination for people in this age group started on Tuesday and it will be organised only in these five government hospitals in the district.

‘Interference by NHAI in the process affects right to fair compensation’
The Bhoomalakara Horata Samithi of National Highway 169 (Mangaluru-Solapur) has decided not to extend any cooperation to acquisition of land for widening the highway between Mangaluru and Karkala on the ground that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is interfering in the process of providing fair compensation to land losers.
In a statement here, samithi president Mariyamma Thomas and convener Prakashchandra urged land losers not to provide any document to officials when they visit the land. This is as per the resolution adopted in the April 18 meeting of land owners that decided not to extend cooperation to land acquisition. The districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi went into the fortnight-long lockdown, intended to break the spread of COVID-19, from 10 a.m. on Wednesday with personnel from police, Revenue, and local bodies ensuring shops selling essential commodities were closed and people remained indoors.
