Below, you ll find a depository of all beer reviews written by Timothy Malcolm,
Houstonia dining editor and longtime beer writer. Most of the reviews are of Houston-area beers, but there are a few non-Houston beers highlighted.
We were set to publish this piece just before Covid-19, then we shelved it because of, well, the pandemic. We re bringing it out now to re-start the conversation. So, reviews were largely written two to three years ago, so consider them a guide into understanding some of the beers listed. Also, some of the beers aren t available currently or may be out of production; we ll keep them here because you never know when they reemerge.

On our backs we carried a tent of the sort that kids might play in, a camping-gas stove and a couple of dirt-cheap sleeping bags. In our pockets were traveller’s cheques to the value of £50 apiece – this being the maximum amount of cash (not that we had more anyway) it was permissible to take out of a UK in the grip of one of its perennial economic crises.
Whether or not you feel it s right that restaurants and other establishments should be open during the pandemic, the story of bars and drinking establishments in 2020 is feeling like a second-class citizen in comparison.

The Beverage Pivot
There s that word again: pivot. Covid-19 has forced people to rethink strategies across all industries, and the beverage community is no exception.Â
Plus, some local wineries and sommeliers dove head-first into Zoom to teach folks about reds, whites, and rosés. And a few popular restaurants welcomed in bars for pop-ups. Any way to earn a little money.
