A temporary shelter will be opening at the Windsor International Aquatic And Training Centre.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Wajid Ahmed, has issued an outbreak order under the Health Promotion and Protection Act limiting the Downtown Mission’s continued operations in Windsor in response to the recent COVID-19 outbreak and rise in cases. There are 70 total cases of COVID-19 among residents and staff.
To support vulnerable persons in need of emergency shelter services, the City of Windsor and a coalition of partners are working to establish the temporary facility. It is anticipated that this site will be open and operational effective Wednesday, February 24th, 2021.

Ciara Holmes counsels people on a daily basis through her work at Family Services Windsor-Essex. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t have to take a step back and reassess her work-life balance during the pandemic.
“It was incredibly challenging,” said Holmes, a 37-year-old mother of two school-age children, social worker and customer care team manager at Family Services.

“I did make attempts to be home. But the balance of meeting the needs of my children in home while also trying to meet the needs of the people that we support through our counselling program would have been too challenging.
