Judge Shawn Pearson was officially sworn in as the District Court Judge of Minnesota’s Sixth Judicial District Friday afternoon.
Pearson was appointed to the position by Gov. Tim Walz back in May.
Judge Pearson’s appointment will make him Duluth’s first African American Judge.
“Statistically speaking, I wasn’t supposed to be here. I grew up in rural Appalachian Ohio with a single mom who fortunately had a high school diploma and somehow was able to earn a nursing degree by going to night school,” said Pearson. “Growing up poor, I learned what government cheese tasted like. The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, at the Ryce Community Center, 305 Seventh St. N.W.
Putting Self First
The Womenâs Ministry of Greater Believers Worship Center, 824 Northside Drive, will host âPutting Self Firstâ 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17. Lady Cathy Nobles will discuss the importance of physical, mental and emotional health. The event will start with a 20-minute Zumba exercise led by Sister Petrine Barnes, so attendees are urged to wear something comfortable. Refreshments will be served.
Nerf Wars
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority will hold Nerf Wars for mothers and sons 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 31, at Tommy Meredith Gym. Registration is 9:30 to 10 a.m. Fees are $15 per mother-son pair and $5 per additional son.
