Immigration and Customs Enforcement could reportedly release migrants farther north as southern border shelters near the Rio Grande Valley get overwhelmed.
OPINION/INA S INSIGHTS: The children at the Southern border
Ina Michele Resnikoff
In all of the chaos and drama of 2020, many have forgotten that there are still over 600 (possibly 1,000) children who were separated from their families at the Southern border upon attempts to come into the United States. They remain in detention camps.
These are the children, often very young whose parents are “unknown” to our government despite court orders to locate them. This is so horrific and unAmerican that we tend to sweep the reality under the rug of amorality.
Housed in facilities that are warehouses, these children from Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and other Central and some South American countries were separated from immigrant parents under the Trump administration “zero-tolerance” policy.
